DAY 5: Friday 21st February 2008. A day that illustrates the difficulty of displaying a work in a public space as opposed to a gallery or museum. In the afternoon the work was damaged by three teenagers. Whilst the damage could be repaired the tears remain visible. Whilst some people are very tentative about the work and ask things like 'do you have to pay to go inside?' or are very nervous about entering because they are not sure if it is allowed, others seem to see it as something in their own public space so therefore they can touch it, handle it, knock it and make it there own space by sitting in it or relaxing in it. It is very interesting to watch these different reactions. It is also noticeable that children seem to have the strongest reaction to it, in a way that is unemcumbered by fear of breaking rules or what they can and can't do. It is usually the parents who are nervous about going inside.
